Roentgens’ Berlin Secretary Cabinet

When my husband and I went on an anniversary trip recently, we spent part of our time “antiquing.”

I enjoy going to second hand or antique stores to see what people have discarded that will now probably find a home with someone else.

I have never seen anything like this Secretary Cabinet though. It is truly amazing! And it is said to have been made in the 1700’s. I believe it is currently displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“It features finely designed marquetry panels and elaborate mechanisms that allow for doors and drawers to be opened automatically at the touch of a button …”

It’s a beautiful piece, isn’t it?
