We tried to stay away from the larger towns in Minnesota in searching for a house. Â But, since we hadn’t had much luck in finding exactly what we were looking for, we decided to attend some open houses.
We weren’t surprised at what we saw in St. Paul. Â We didn’t go into the larger mansion-type houses but instead focused on the small “remodeled” ones.
St Paul, Minnesota Tudor
Small closets built under the eaves, radiator heaters, and cramped backyards.
This neighborhood had similar type houses as we walked back to our car.
And interesting colored walls and niches.
Didn’t find a house in St. Paul. Â At least not in this neighborhood.
Listening to CNN, they discussed a website that had the locations of the nuclear plants. Â All one needs is their zip code to see how close they are to one.
Sabbath – a time to rest. Â How does one turn off the brain with everything that’s going on in this world? Â I’m glad that God makes it possible as we trust that He is still in control in spite of how things look.
Today is our 30 year wedding anniversary. Â To say that I’m a believer in “love at first sight” would be an understatement as it happened to me. Â (I enjoy telling this story over and over again but I’ll tell the short version.)
I met him at a small liberal arts college called Knox which is located in Springfield, Illinois. Â The meeting was uneventful for him.
A friend and I were walking and talking and my future husband was sitting on the grass. Long hair, hands folded and looking very calm. Â I turned to my friend and said “I’m going to marry that guy.”
And eventually, I did.

The secret for being married 30 years? Â There is no secret.
It requires commitment, kindness, patience, gentleness, laughter, love and God.
Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
This verse was brought to my mind recently. Â The three strands in my life are me, my husband and God.
To my best friend, lover, soulmate and husband — thanks for being a constant in my life.
To my best friend, lover, soulmate and Father — thank you for being a Constant in my life.
This is another house we looked at this past Sunday when we went viewing houses that were open to the public. Â It’s in Woodbury, Minnesota and is in a development with houses that are almost cookie-cutter.
We signed the offer paperwork this afternoon for the Lino Lakes House. Â It should already be in the seller’s agents hand.
We were told that there are two other house offers that may be coming in.
Just our luck. Â We are not in the type of market that should have multiple offers on houses. Â We’ll see what happens now. Â Hopefully we’ll have an acceptance or rejection by Monday so we can plan our next step.
Since we haven’t been having much luck with the offers we’re making on houses, we have a backup house in case the Lino Lakes offer is not accepted.
The backup house is in Lake Elmo. Â This house is a little closer to my husband’s work by about 15 minutes. Â It also has lake access although it is not lake front. Â The reason we chose the Lino Lake house instead of this one is because the other one needs very little updating and this one needs a lot more updating with the exception of the kitchen.
Tomorrow we’ll be putting in an offer on a house in Lino Lakes since our counteroffer on the Hudson, Wisconsin house was rejected.
The Lino Lakes house is on an acre of land and has a wetland/marsh in the backyard. Â It has a beautiful deck where one can sit and watch the birds and it has an enclosed sun porch.
The kitchen has recently been remodeled along with the master bathroom. Â Unfortunately, this house does not have a bedroom on the main floor although it has both a living and family room on the main level.
This house also has access to the nearby lake. Â Canoeing anyone?
We recently went to a restaurant for breakfast called Keys Cafe and Bakery in Woodbury, Minnesota.
The restaurant is in a strip mall and appears to be very well attended.
We decided to share the ominous looking cinnamon roll to start. Â It was good and I’m glad we didn’t let the size deter us. It is full of air, light and fluffy. Â I don’t know why they give you butter for it. Â It’s plenty moist.

I had fried eggs with hash browns. The eggs were a little undercooked as you can see.
My husband had the Italian Sausage Hash which was filled with lots of vegetables and which he devoured.

The service was great. Â Overall, a good place to have breakfast.
Another house we went to visit this past Sunday was in St. Paul, Minnesota. The house sits right across the street from the Mississippi River.
St. Paul, Minnesota House
This is an older house. Â The kitchen was slightly re-done but they would have had to remodel all of the kitchen in order to replace the smaller and older ovens as there is really not much room.
Wood paneling, similar to the one that we took out of our Seattle house, is rampant throughout this one. Â Ugh! Â There is a built-in 70’s type bar that pulls out in this built-in cabinet.
This is the 2nd house I’ve seen that has a very pink bathroom. Â Notice the detail on the tile next to the sink.
And, lastly, a laundry chute (much smaller than the one in Seattle) and push buttons to turn on the lights.
This house is too dated for our taste. Â It also sits on a very busy street.
